Pope Leo XIV Leads First Public Regina Coeli, Emphasizing Youth Vocations and Global Peace

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, Pope Leo XIV appeared at the window of the Apostolic Palace overlooking St. Peter’s Square to lead his first public recitation of the Regina Coeli prayer. This significant moment marked his first public address since being elected Supreme Pontiff on May 8.

Speaking to a vibrant crowd of pilgrims and faithful gathered in the square, Pope Leo XIV delivered a heartfelt message centered on the importance of vocations, especially among the youth.

He encouraged young men and women to courageously respond to the call of God, saying, "Do not be afraid to accept the invitation of the Church and of Christ the Lord."

He further emphasized the responsibility of the entire Church community in accompanying and supporting young people on their path of discernment. “We must walk alongside them,” he said, “with understanding, patience, and encouragement.”

During his address, the Pope warmly greeted pilgrim groups from various countries, including Spain, Malta, Panama, the United States (particularly Texas), and Peru—where he previously served as a missionary and bishop. His words conveyed deep affection and gratitude for their prayers and presence.

Pope Leo XIV concluded his message with a fervent appeal for peace across the globe. He specifically mentioned the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, urging for a ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need. “Let us pray for peace,” he said, “a true and lasting peace that respects the dignity of every human being.”

This first public appearance of Pope Leo XIV revealed his pastoral heart, his concern for young people, and his deep awareness of global suffering—offering a hopeful vision for the Church under his leadership.
